Glodina was established in 1952 and is the leading manufacturer of quality terry towels and related products in South Africa. Glodina is also the major supplier to the local hospitality industry, the sole supplier to Woolworths, and supplies other major retailers in SA. Its brands are Glodina, Black Label, Soft Touch and Marathon.
Glodina has a 30% market share, and although the target market is the retail sector and many South African hotels, the business is looking at further opportunities in the hospitality sector, which has potential for good growth, as well as opening up additional factory outlets.
Glodina has consistently upheld a reputation for quality, durability and innovation and has been awarded “Best all-round performance” from the SA Cotton board for six years running. The key business drivers are focusing on producing luxury niche products, supporting product innovation through design, construction, and value for money and superior service. The design team constantly monitors international trends to maintain market leadership.
Outside of traditional linens, duvets and sleeping bags, Glodina has also moved into cloth nappies, marketed under the Black Label brand, a more environmentally friendly product than the non-biodegradable disposable version, as well as healthier on babies in that they utilise natural fibres and pure cotton versus synthetic fibres. To keep up with demand and diversify its target markets, the company is moving into new, energetic products, including beach fashion and leisurewear division.
The Durban-based manufacturing facility is ISO-14000(environmental) and ISO-18000 (safety and health) accredited, as well as having the ISO-9000 quality certification.
Glodina has always invested substantially in its human capital and been people-focused in its business approach, demonstrated by the average length of employee service being 23 years.
